Brisbane Hosts Lorde this May

Lorde, the hit sensation from Australasia, is staging a national tour in April and May that has attracted rave reviews in the US.

The 17-year-old has burst onto the global scene with an explosion of awards and hits. She wowed audiences worldwide with her hit singles Royals, Tennis Court and Team. Her debut album Pure Heroine was Spotify’s No. 1 most streamed track in 2013 with over 16 million streams.

That’s not to mention a couple of Grammys and a Brit award, a stunning 350 million YouTube views, and plaudits from meta-names like Bowie.

Australia has taken the teenager to its heart and made the New Zealander its own. Lorde has made Australia’s top 15 on the Top 100 chart not once, but three times. Her Royals/The Love Club EP hit 6 x Platinum, and Pure Heroine 2 x Platinum.

Lorde’s appeal is said to extend not just to the mass youth market at the foot of the stage, but also to the “more weathered souls scattered amid the sold-out room”. This is probably what makes her stand out from other Top 40 stars, said the Dallas Fort-Worth News.

Rolling Stone praised the self-confident vision in one so young. The magazine said she clearly cared about all her material and unlike some, she did not just use her other songs as filler between hits. Meanwhile, the Houston Press agreed it was a good sign when audiences sang back to her more than just the hits.

Kicking off at Festival Hall in Melbourne on April 24, Lorde’s tour travels to Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Newcastle before a finale on Brisbane’s Riverstage in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, May 6.  For the first time in Australia, all concerts will be all-ages. Lorde’s support act will be Canberra’s three-piece electro-indie group, SAFIA.
