Brisbane’s Best High Teas
by: March 16th, 2014
Thanks to the mad hatter, the tea party has become quite a popular thing. And we aren’t exactly talking nanna’s stale shortbread biscuits and tea either – high tea has become a classy and delectable affair! If you are in Brisbane and feel like taking the lace gloves out for a spin, why not check out these high tea venues:
Spring Food + Wine
In the heart of the CBD you’ll find Spring Food + Wine. With low-hanging lights that create a modern setting and an abundance of plants that give the feeling of being in a 1920’s parlour with your very own Mr Gatsby, it’s authentic high tea country.
Here you can indulge in high tea with the girls but strictly on the weekends between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. The $55 set price includes a $10 donation to Chicks in Pink, who support women with breast cancer. For your dosh you’ll receive a selection of full sandwiches, macaroons and petite sweet morsels plus loose leaf tea, coffee and a glass of champers.
Customs House offers a great view of Story Bridge and Brisbane River, making it the ideal place to enjoy some frivolity and fun with friends. For a mere $39 per person you’ll enjoy mini chocolate cakes with pop-rock icing and cute-as carrot cake. Wash it all down with tea or coffee, and for an extra $5 you can enjoy a glass of bubbles. For a venue that oozes ‘special occasion’, like a bridal shower or birthday, Customs House is a great high tea option. Plus, they offer high tea in two sessions per day. First at morning tea time between 10:00am and 11:30am, and then in the afternoon between 2:00pm and 3:30pm.
Some other fine venues that serve high tea include the Marriott, Hilton and Sofitel. If you don’t mind a little traveling, Tea & Niceties at Mt Tamborine do a great high tea. Or there is The Old Teahouse Gallery on the Gold Coast.
Regardless of where you decide to go to enjoy your gourmet morsels and fine china cuppa, make sure you book in advance. Also, be aware that some venues aren’t all that welcoming to little ones so a phone call beforehand is always the best option.
