by: December 22nd, 2012
If you are in Brisbane and are looking for a good night out, head straight to the Fortitude Valley district, because as one of the most vibrant parts of the city there are a huge variety of options. The bars in particular are a big highlight, and the following is a look at some of the best ones to explore while you are here.
The Limes Hotel
This great place is a boutique hotel with its own awesome rooftop bar, offering fabulous cocktails, a funky design and fantastic music. The Rooftop Bar at Limes also hosts ‘Movie and Mojitos’ nights in the spring, Jazz every Wednesday night, a Thursday night wine club, as well as fun Friday and Saturday nights that feature great drinks, music and an electric atmosphere. Whether you stay at Limes or at one of the other great Brisbane hotels nearby, be sure to stop by the rooftop bar while you are in the area.
Easily one of the best-known establishments in the Valley, the Wickham is a thriving gay and lesbian pub that includes three different bars and a gaming room. The Wickham is known to put on some pretty raucous events, ranging from Drag Shows to ‘Best Butt competitions’, and their annual Big Gay Out event is epic, attracting over 5000 people each year.
For those who take their drinking a little more seriously, Luxe offers a huge variety of drink options in a smart, casual setting, so whether you like your beer, wine or are more a cocktail kind of person, you are in for a real treat a Luxe. Located close to many major hotels in the midst of the bustling Fortitude Valley, Luxe serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and tapas, and is the perfect place to drop in for a meal or even to spend the entire evening.
This glamorous Brisbane establishment is one of the newest additions to the scene in the Valley, and it has made a huge impact. Featuring five bars, eight private areas for hire, and a massive dance floor that is always pumping, the Met is unlike any other bar or club in the city, and its stunning Asian-inspired interior design is guaranteed to impress. If you are coming to Brisbane to party, book your Brisbane accommodation somewhere close to The Met, because you will likely be spending much of your time here.
While this place was once a dodgy bar known as The Dead Rat, it has grown to become one of the hippest bars in the Valley. On weekdays the Fringe Bar is a great place to catch some live local bands, take some pole dancing lessons for a bit of fun, or even just drop in for lunch or a quiet beer after work. Then, when the weekend rolls around, Fringe becomes one of the Valley’s most popular places to party, hosting the hottest DJs and serving some of the city’s tastiest cocktails.
