How to Make Business Travel Better When You’re Flying Economy
by: June 10th, 2014
Many businesses have had to tighten their belts since the GFC. Unfortunately one of the first things to go is business class travel. According to WA Today, it’s common these days to see people traveling economy class for business travel, but there are a few ways to make it work for you:
Use your frequent flyer status – Often airlines will do their best to ensure there is a free seat next to you if you are a top-tier frequent flyer. Still, don’t leave this to chance. It’s always a good idea to make a request at the check-in desk.
Board in the business class line – If you’re a frequent flyer, you’ll often be able to board with business class so you get first access to overhead luggage space.
Ordering a special meal – While in business class you can pretty much dine at your leisure but when it comes to economy the meals are served all together and you’re left with an empty plate taking up room for at least 30 minutes after you’ve finished eating. Get around this by ordering a special meal (vegetarian, gluten-free or kosher for example) before you fly. This will ensure you get yours first, and then you can ask one of the crew to take away the tray before everyone else is served, so you have your workspace back.
