Queensland Attracting Record Holiday Numbers

Queensland is experiencing its best start to the summer holiday season in almost ten years. According to the Courier Mail, tourist numbers are way up on the last few years. It seems to be all thanks to consistently good weather and a low Aussie dollar, making domestic holidays more attractive than going overseas.

Coastal hot spots such as the Sunshine and Gold Coasts are really humming, with accommodation fully booked and restaurants and tour operators reaping the rewards of TV advertising targeting the southern states.

The floods, bad weather and the GFC have seen Queensland suffer in previous years, but things appear to have reversed this year. Tourism operators are likening it to ‘the good old days’ a decade ago, when Queensland was the summer holiday mecca for most Australians.

With temperatures hovering around 30 degrees every day, the theme parks are hopping and life savers have report packed beaches since Christmas.

While the full figures won’t be known until the season ends, the mood is so positive that David Thompson, General Manager of Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast predicted it would be the best holiday season on record.
