Queensland’s Opal and Antique Talent
August 21st, 2013
Brisbane is probably best known for its beaches and tropical sights, but according to travel writer Phil Jarratt, if you are so inclined an hours drive out of the city will land you in the southeastern ranges are rich with treasures such as opal stores, local produce and antiques.
Jarratt recommended Montys in Montville for its selection of local produce that included gelato, sorbets, condiments, sauces and pamper packs with complete gourmet meals. Montville is also home to The Opal Cutter, which has locally cut opals sourced from Coober Pedy and Queensland boulders.
For those who love classic pieces or collecting antiques, Australis of Montville Antiques has jewellery, second-hand books and magazines, and much more. Jarratt also recommended that travellers take the opportunity to visit Montville Woods and the Alpaca and Natural Textile Store, both of which are also in Montville.
Maleny is another town in the southeastern ranges with hidden treasures awaiting discovery. The Maple Street Co-op, for example, offers organic produce and locally made potions and lotions. The Colin James Fine Foods store has cheeses, gelato, sorbets, and antipasti. Rosetta Books and the Maleny Book Shop are two of the excellent local bookstores that are worth a browse.
