by: January 7th, 2014
One of Sydney’s most popular tourist attractions is also a popular destination for locals. Taronga Zoo has become such a draw that it has been named a major tourist attraction at the recent NSW Tourism Awards.
The presenters noted that the Zoo has gone out of its way to cater to tourists with a vartity of experiences. The facility’s scenic harbour-side location and commitment to environmental awareness were also singled out.
Taronga Zoo has also become a major factor in Sydney’s economy. The Zoo attracts over one and a half million visitors to the city each year.
Other zoos, including Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo and the Melbourne Zoo, have been chosen to receive awards as well. The Taronga Zoo was named the best small tourism attraction at the NSW Awards and the Melbourne Zoo was honoured at the recent Victorian Tourism Awards.
