Things You Must Do When Visiting Sydney
February 7th, 2013
Sydney is absolutely packed full of highlights, but unless you will be here for a lengthy visit it will be hard to see them all, so make sure that you are at least seeing all those biggest and best gems while you are here. The following are some of the things you simply must do when visiting Sydney, so prioritize these activities to ensure you have the best possible visit.
Check Out the Beaches
Sydney is a fantastic city for many reasons, with no highlight bigger than the incredible beaches, so if you plan on spending any amount of time in this wonderful city make sure that you are getting in as much beach time as possible. Not all of Sydney is close to beaches so make sure that you are planning to stay in accommodation in Sydney that isn’t far from a beach, because you will be far more likely to want to spend time at the beach if it is a little less of a mission getting there.
Sydney has an incredible restaurant scene, with fantastic new restaurants popping up on a near daily basis, so if you find yourself in this part of the world make sure that you check out at least a few of the delightful cafes and delicious restaurants while you are here. If you are coming to Sydney on a limited budget, it is a good idea to plan to stay in Sydney accommodation that has at least some basic cooking facilities, because as great as the food scene is here, you likely won’t be able to afford to eat out every night.
Get to some Sport
Sydneysiders love their sport, so if you want to get a good look at this great city and experience as much of the culture as possible, you simply must check out a sporting event or two while you are here. There is always something big going on, from rugby league to cricket to surfing, but be sure to book your tickets well in advance to avoid the disappointment of having an event sell out on you.
Take a Harbour Cruise
One of the most famous parts of Sydney is of course the gorgeous inner city harbour, so even if you are only in Sydney for a day or two make sure that you get a good look at this natural gem. The best way to check out Sydney Harbour is by jumping on one of the many harbour cruises, and there is a cruise to suit almost every style and budget, ranging from coffee cruises to party boats. If you can’t afford to get on a harbour cruise jump on the ferry to Manly instead, because this is an inexpensive way to get out on this magnificent body of water, even though it will be for only 30 minutes each way.
Check Out Some Live Music
Whether you head to one of Sydney’s huge music festivals or go to your local pub for the open mike night, live music is a big part of the culture in Sydney, so don’t leave until you have seen and heard some. There are all sorts of International acts that regularly tour down here and there is a thriving local live music scene as well, so if you are looking for a fun night out and a great way to meet a few Sydneysiders, going to see some live music is a sure way to do it.
